Katniss Everdeen, Harry Potter, Tris Prior, Percy Jackson — What do these people have in common? Yep, they’re the so-called “Chosen Ones”. Now what if you have to read about those who weren’t the chosen ones? The kids on the sidelines without the burden of saving the world or anything, all they want is to live a good life and maybe stay normal until the “Chosen Ones” successfully save the world. If you’re into that kind of stories then this book might just be right for you.
Let’s face it, not all the characters in the book gets to become the hero but is it really that bad to become normal? When I’ve read this book all I thought was “Who’s going to save the world?” well, someone did. Patrick Ness was able to talk about the issues of teenagers, from their young love stories to mental illnesses that involves OCD, depression and eating disorders. Plus, it’s full of sarcasm and wit where you might end up learning some witty expressions from each of the characters, right after their school explodes and their cars get wrecked. Okay, this story is not entirely normal as it involves supernatural beings. But imagine the world ending and these kids aren’t up for the world-saving-task so they focus on graduating instead.
So if you’re looking for something intense as that, try to find another book on your shelves because these are just the kids who wants to survive.
PS: I will have this book as a giveaway to the bookish out there. For now, it’s just in the Philippines because I’m broke. haha (not kidding though.) If you’re going for it, go here.
